Madras HC summons TN power secretary, TANGEDCO chief to explain power situation
Seeking to know whether the State had deliberately failed to ensure enough storage of coal and ignored utilisation of wind energy merely to buy power from other States, the Madras HC has summoned the Secretary, Energy Department and Chairman, Tangedco to appear before it on Friday to explain the power position in Tamil Nadu.

Justice N Kirubakaran was passing interim orders on a contempt plea against the Government for deliberately backing down wind power and offering priority to thermal power despite it being last in the priority list.Â
The judge also posed a string of questions and sought details about the shortage of coal in Tamil Nadu, the impending power shortage and the steps taken by the State Government as well as TANGEDCO to improve the shortage of coal.
However, Additional Advocate General S Manishankar on refuting the allegations said there is no backing down at all and if at all there is any backing down, it is only due to unavoidable circumstances taking the grid safety into consideration.
