Lorry runs over woman, SSI father raises suspicion
A day after 27-year-old woman was knocked down by a tanker lorry near Chennai Central, her father, a special sub-inspector, has lodged a complaint raising suspicion that it could have been a planned murder by his kin over a property dispute.
Chennai
The complainant, Thulasi Singam, is a special sub-inspector attached to North Beach police station and a resident of Sowcarpet. Police said that Thulasi Singam has an ongoing dispute with his father-in-law Rathinam, a stunt master in films, over an ancestral property in George Town.Â
His daughter Ramya, who works in a beauty parlour in Nungambakkam, was staying in Rathinam’s house on father’s insistence. Though Ramya’s father and grandfather were fighting with each other, she stayed at Rathinam’s house because she and Thulasi Singham believed that she had the right to live there. This was also a major bone of contention between them, police said.Â
On Monday evening, Ramya was returning home after work, when a lorry rammed her two-wheeler near Chennai Central. She was rushed to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where she succumbed to injuries. Â
While Elephant Gate traffic investigation police registered a case and arrested the lorry driver Palani (48) from Pattabiram, Thulasi Singam has lodged a complaint that Rathinam and his brother-in-law Ethiraj might have planned the accident to get rid-off her. He believed that Rathinam and Ethiraj wanted to keep away his daughter from their house. Following Thulasi Singam’s complaint, an inquiry has been launched to ascertain the veracity of the allegations, police said.
