    NCSC seeks report on salary details of civic workers

    Following complaints of irregularity in the distribution of daily wages to the Scheduled Caste workers employed with the Greater Chennai Corporation, L Murugan, Vice-Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), has directed the civic authority to submit details of the wages.

    While reviewing the welfare measures and status of the employees belong to scheduled castes at the Ripon Buildings, L Murugan fixed a 15-day deadline to submit the report. 

    “We have received many complaints regarding the irregularities in the wage distribution. It is important to access the account details of the daily wage labourers to ascertain whether they are given EPF and other benefits,” Murugan told DT Next.

    Apart from seeking a report on salary details, he also directed the Chennai Corporation to make sure proper disbursement of minimum daily wage of Rs 350 as fixed by district collector. Taking note on the private conservancy in Kodambakkam, Teynampet and Adyar zones, the NCSC Vice Chairman has directed the civic officials to provide ID cards to the conservancy workers employed by the private firm.

    In the meeting, where Deputy Commissioners of Chennai Corporation and police officers participated, Murugan also sought another report on the reservation system followed while appointing workers at Chennai Corporation schools and hospitals. “As many as 33 posts under SC quota are kept in backlog for nearly four years. The commission has directed the concerned officials to clear the backlog,” he explained.
