TV star Nilani in hospital after suicide attempt
Television actor Nilani, who hit the headlines after her ex-boyfriend committed suicide, tried to kill herself by consuming mosquito repellent liquid, at her residence in Maduravoyal on Thursday. It was a group of media personnel, who had gone to her house following a press meet invitation, who learnt about the attempt and informed the police.

She has been kept under observation at the KK Nagar GH, police said. On Wednesday, the actor had accused the media of defaming her by publishing her photos with Gandhi Lalith Kumar, her ex-boyfriend, who committed suicide by self-immolation.Â
Nilani had invited reporters for a press meet at her house on Thursday. When the reporters reached her house, her children told them that she was unconscious after consuming mosquito repellent. Following their alert, Maduravoyal police rushed to her the hospital. Nilani, who is popular among TV serial aficionados, was recently arrested for making derogatory statements against the Police Department in connection with the Thoothukudi firing incident.Â
On September 14, she had lodged a complaint alleging harassment by Gandhi. Two days after that, Gandhi set himself ablaze in the open in KK Nagar and succumbed to the burns on September 17.
