    Government dental hospital gets 3D tech to treat bone deterioration

    A Dentofacial Rehabilitation Centre was inaugurated at the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College and Hospital on Thursday by State Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar.

    Equipped with technology to provide 3D samples and TMJ arthroscopy, the facility can be used to carry out procedures like correcting bone deterioration. The facility also has a 3D printing facility to provide accurate samples for the different kinds of procedure– these include a vast section of complex procedures.

    Talking to media, Vijayabhaskar said, “The 3D stereo lithography printer has been procured at a cost of Rs 1.14 crore. This is the first time in the country a that a government facility provides this service. They can decide and plan on the procedures by making real time models for accurate assessment. Many can benefit from it at no cost.

    At the hospital that conducts dental camps for different sections of people—twice a week, the camps are being upgraded at a cost of Rs 30 lakh. The camps will now have mobile units. 

    A gym for the students was also inaugurated at the event.

    The event was presided over by Dr Edwin Joe, Director of Medical Education and M Vimala, in-charge, Government Dental College Hospital.
