He delivered a speech at the event outlining why neurology and psychiatry should be combined for better mental and brain care. “It is crucial to isolate epileptic problems and identify therapeutic treatments that can help such conditions,” Kanemoto said.

The professor, who has spent years on researching the behaviour of epilepsy, pointed out that many epileptic cases pose several social and psychological issues and not just brain malfunctions, thus making extra medical care such as job coaching and psychotherapy, essential.

The event also witnessed the introduction of a dedicated mobile therapy unit which combines various therapies to meet the requirements of patients across age groups.

The unit was launched by A Vellayan, the former executive chairman of Murugappa Group and trustee of Vellayan Chettiar Trust.

The unit, an air-conditioned and soundproofed setting equipped with neuro-stimulating equipment like neuro modulators and brain mappers with alternative therapeutic equipment, offers a host of procedures.
