Ponnar meets Palaniswami, discusses Chennai-Salem green corridor project
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Pon Radhakrishnan on Thursday called on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence here.
Chennai
According to informed sources, the Union minister discussed about the ongoing National Highway projects in Tamil Nadu, including the much-delayed Chennai Port–Maduravoyal Corridor which would run along the arterial Poonamallee High Road and the Cooum river.
Palaniswami and Radhakrishnan also discussed about the controversial Chennai Salem green corridor project.Â
The state government had recently made amendments to the eight-lane project proposed at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore. Though the breadth of the road will be reduced, the length of the proposed road will remain as 277.30 kilometres. The acquisition of land for the project will be reduced from 90 metres to 70 metres in non-forest areas and 50 metres in case of forest areas.
Earlier in the day, Radhakrishnan told the media that he met Palaniswami to discuss about the pending projects mooted by the Centre in Tamil Nadu. When asked about the release of convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Radhakrishnan said the Governor as per the Constitution will take his own decision on their release.
