Book released on change of model to push up ranking of Indian varsities
A book that pitches for a change in model to push up the ranking of Indian Universities, titled “Creating a Learning University - A Knowledge Management Perspective” was released at the University of Madras by Sunil Paliwal, principal secretary - Labour and Employment, who had brought reforms in education during his previous role as the higher education secretary.

Paliwal complimented the University of Madras for its excellence in research and the culture of debate and lively discussions. He felt that academic institutions should teach students how to learn and foster freedom of expression but with respect to the authorities. He stressed the need of the hour was on ‘digital disruption’.
The book has been authored by an award winning faculty member of management studies of University of Madras, Dr Vaneeta Aggarwal. Speaking at the launch, Dr Vaneeta Aggarwal stressed that, “Universities must not be ivory towers but incubators of disruptive innovation.”
She added that the focus of the book was, “Is to delineate the concept of learning organisation and knowledge management and study its relation and applicability in the corporate world and higher educational institutions. We need to bring in changes in our existing university systems as Indian universities are not ranked among the top world universities. The framework conceptualised in the book can be applied to transform universities into learning universities and corporate training centres into learning centres.”
The first copy of the book was received by the Prof P Duraisamy, Vice Chancellor, University of Madras, who presided over the function commended the author for ensuring that, “Universities must be content creators not mere content distributors.”
TN Manoharan, Chairman, Canara Bank reviewed the book and noted that the faculty can emerge, “Not as fuel pipes but spark plugs if what the book advocates is implemented.”
Dr R Thenmozhi, Head and Professor, Department of Management Studies, University of Madras, welcomed the gathering. The function witnessed heads from various departments, college principals, faculties from various university departments and colleges and executives from the corporate sector.
