Stanley Hospital to keep only main gate open post dusk
While checking the unnecessary crowds and thereby preventing untoward incidents at government hospitals has been a long-standing challenge, the Stanley Medical College and Hospital administration has now taken to locking all gates except for the main one on their campus by evening.

Stating that they do not have enough man power to prevent the entry of random visitors, a doctor at the hospital said that they hope that they would now be able to check any untoward incidents at their hospital premises.
“The gates at the Out-Patient block will be shut at 4 pm until the next morning and the gate outside the surgical gastroenterology department will be locked from 10 pm to 6 am,” said Dr Dhanasekaran Krishnan, Deputy Medical Superintendent at the hospital.
He said that the only gate that will be open from 10 pm to 6 am will be the main gate facing the Paediatric block. “We see between 10,000 to 15,000 people – patients, attenders and random people – on a regular basis. Due to the lack of man power, we are unable to check all entry points. Besides, it is not possible to stop the attenders at the gates,” he added. While all government hospitals, including Stanley, see hundreds of people entering the premises merely to relax or hang around in sheds, the possibility of it creating problems for those working there and coming for treatment is high. “We have seen people roaming around the premises. To prevent that from happening we opted for this option,” he added.
