Foreign currency seized at airport
The Customs officers seized foreign currencies worth Rs 8.5 lakh from two passengers at the city airport on Saturday.

As they were checking the passengers, who were about to board the Chennai-Singapore around 12.15 am, they intercepted Mohammed Yasin (32) of Chennai. Yasin, who was travelling to Singapore on a tourist visa, was found carrying foreign currencies of various countries, including Saudi, Qatar, United States and Kuwait, inside his clothes. The officials seized all the currencies worth Rs 5.3 lakh.
Meanwhile, they also found that Saravanan (28) from Sri Lanka, who in the airport to board a Chennai-Colombo flight, was hiding US dollars inside his rectum. The officers seized US dollars’ worth Rs 3 lakh from him. Both of them were detained for further inquiry.
