3 juveniles held for placing cement slabs on MRTS tracks
The Government Railway Police on Friday arrested three juveniles for placing cement slabs on the tracks between Velachery and Perungudi, and Perungudi and Taramani. Police said the boys wanted to steal the iron rods inside the reinforced cement slab to sell and raise money to celebrate one of their friend’s birthday.

Ruling out any sabotage angle behind the episode, police said the boys wanted to break the heavy slabs so that they could take the iron rods inside and sell it to scrap dealers for money.
After an inquiry, police found that the boys had sold the iron at a nearby iron scrap shops. Based on the information provided by the shop owners, the juveniles were arrested. The boys are students of an Industrial Training Institute in Taramani. A case has been registered for causing damage to or destruction of certain Railway properties.
ADGP C Sylendra Babu who heads the GRP had inspected the MRTS route after cement slabs were found on the track on two occasions - August 31 and September 4. He then formed a special team to crack the case and arrest the miscreants.
On Friday, Sylendra Babu congratulated the GRP and RPF teams for cracking the case. Police said that the public can call 24*7 Railway police helpline 1512 to pass on alerts about cement slabs, wooden logs, iron rods or stones lying on railway tracks near their locality.
