Blast in scrap shop, 1 hurt
Tension prevailed at Madipakkam after an unidentified object that was kept at a scrap shop exploded on Monday morning. Madipakkam police are investigating.

Jayasingh Raja (40) from Muvarasanpet near Madipakkam has been running a scrap shop. On Monday morning, Jayasingh was separating the scraps when the incident happened. As he was sorting the waste, one of the objects went off with a loud explosion, followed by fire.
The neighbours and traders from other shops rushed to his aid and doused the fire.
Jayasingh who suffered burn injuries on hands was taken to nearby private hospital. Following an alert, Madipakkam police visited the shop and found some white material inside the barrel. Police have recovered and sent it for examination to the forensic science department.
Police have registered a case and conducting inquiry with Jayasingh to know from where he could have collected the scrap.
