‘Chennai Express’ restaurant launched at Rail Museum
Visitors to the Chennai Rail Museum (CRM) at the Integral Coach Factory now have an added attraction: a restaurant inside a rail coach. Named ‘Chennai Express’, the restaurant will not only attract people with the menu on offer, but also garner attention with the unique theme.

With antique light fittings and observation windows on both the ends of the coaches, the luxuriously furnished restaurant will give visitors a sense of warmth. The exterior of the coach restaurant has been painted by noted artiste Asma Menon her team. Even the space in front of the coach restaurant has been designed like a railway station platform.
Besides Chinese, Continental, North Indian and South Indian cuisines, the 64-seater restaurant will also have items that were served on the famous trains of bygone era of Indian Railways. The names for the dishes have also been fixed accordingly.
Chennai Express will function between 11 am and 10 pm on all days except Mondays. Initially, it would cater to the needs of the visitors to the museum during working hours (9 am to 6 pm). After the visiting hours, the public can dine in without any entry ticket.
Besides the restaurant that is expected to attract the attention of the visitors to the Rail Museum, an added attraction will be a small water body and a small forest set up inside the premises.
The restaurant was inaugurated by Sitaram Prasad, Corporal Chef, GRT Group of Hotels and Resorts, and M B Venkatesh, Managing Director, Eden Group of Hotels, on Friday. IRCTC will be in charge of this unique rail coach restaurant, the second such restaurant in India. The first one being operated by IRCTC in Bhopal. To add to the uniqueness of this air-conditioned restaurant, it was made ready in a record time of three months.
