Visuals of a group of unruly teenagers wielding weapons while travelling footboard on an MTC bus, went viral on Thursday, after which the police started looking for them. Police said all were students were from Presidency College, who were travelling on the bus on route 57 F (Karanodai – Broadway) on Wednesday when they indulged in the terrorising act near Mint bridge.

A statement from City Police on Friday said one of the arrested students were remanded in judicial custody, while the three minors were sent to a government juvenile home.  The police had detained more than half a dozen students on Thursday, but finally zeroed in on the four students after confirming their identity based on the video clip, and arrested them. Parents of all the arrested students were summoned to the police station by the investigating officer on Friday.

Hours later, visuals of the arrested minor students being thrashed by their parents were also shown on some television news channels.

Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan, a former student of Presidency College to which all the students involved in the latest case belong to, asked the youth stay away from unwanted protests and concentrate on studies instead.

“Learn what excite you. Do it with passion,” the city police chief said recalling how he, who graduated in history, ended up coming first in Tamil Nadu in UPSC examination, which enabled him to join IPS.
