Chennai likely to receive rain for next 2 days
While the state has received normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon so far, Chennai has received surplus rainfall between June and August this year, according to MET officials.

The city is likely to receive thundershowers or light rains recording a maximum temperature of 35 degrees and minimum 27 degrees in the next 48 hours.Â
The city has recorded an above normal rainfall with of 290.7 mm against the normal rainfall of 275.8 mm. This is a departure from the usual trend where the city sees a light rainfall activity with a few moderate spells. The rest of the state has received a normal monsoon with a rainfall of 154.6 mm during the southwest monsoon.Â
Coimbatore district recorded the highest rainfall of 531.4 mm against the normal of 107 mm in the state during this monsoon. It is followed by the districts like Theni (346.8 mm) and Tirunelveli (277.9 mm). Kanniyakumari and the Nilgiris also recorded an excess rainfall in this monsoon.Â
Weather blogger Pradeep John said that rains in western coast of Tamil Nadu will continue and become more widespread later in the week. However, he said that Kerala is likely to experience isolated spells for the next two weeks assuaging the fears of heavy rains.Â
