Kanimozhi to attend Vajpayee’s memorial event today
BJP national president Amit Shah may have chosen to skip the memorial event for DMK president M Karunanidhi, but the Dravidian party is deputing one of its prominent faces and the late leader’s daughter Kanimozhi to attend today’s meeting organised by the BJP to pay homage to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who died on August 16.

Both the DMK and the AIADMK, besides the Congress, will participate in the meeting being organised here.
According to a statement from BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar and Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan will also be coming.
All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) senior leader and Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar, Dravidar Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP Kanimozhi, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president S Thirunavukkarasar will represent the three major parties in the meeting, Tamilisai said.
Leaders of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), GK Mani and Thol Thirumavalavan, respectively, will also attend the meeting, she said.
The DMK’s ally, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will be represented by its leader and lone party MLA in Tamil Nadu KAM Mohammed Abubacker, while leaders of the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India (CPI) would also participate in the meeting.
Leaders of some other parties and outfits will also be present.
The former prime minister’s death was announced by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) hospital in New Delhi on August 16. He was 93.
