Nine–year-old GK Varshini of Good Shepherd Matriculation Higher Secondary School set a record when she performed Padmasana on rows of planks supported by tumblers for 27 minutes. The last record was set by another child using four tumblers.

Varshini has been learning yoga for one year and spends almost an hour everyday practising it. She said, “I wanted to talk to others like me about how they should be aware of the concept of good touch and bad touch. I understand it is a huge problem that the society is facing of late and, as a child, I wanted to do my bit by spreading awareness.” She added that practising yoga has made her fit and stay focused.

Varshini’s mother B Kanchana, inspector of police, Idol Wing CID Guindy, has been backing her daughter in her endeavour to spread the message. She said, “This crime affects children directly and who better than a child herself to spread the message among children like her?”
