Phone snatcher caught for stealing 6 bikes in one night
A teenager, who managed to steal half a dozen two-wheelers in just a single night from Porur, was nabbed by the City Police on Saturday after tracing him using CCTV footage. Sources said the boy was a mobile phone snatcher, who upgraded his ‘skills’ from other inmates in the prison whom he got close to after being jailed on snatching charges.

The 19-year-old accused was identified as P Sivakumar of Porur. According to police, he was earlier arrested on chain and mobile phone snatching charges in the same locality, and was recently released on bail.
The SRMC police received six complaints of bike theft that happened on the same night – on August 22 – from the neighbourhoods in and around Porur. Following this, the police collected CCTV footage from the respective localities. That is when they found out that the same person was involved in all the incidents.
The CCTV footage showed him either pushing or driving away the two-wheelers without any hassle. Using the image collected from the footage, police traced him. The investigators found the stolen bikes parked behind his home; he was reportedly planning to sell them later.
“He told us that he learnt how to break the lock and start bikes without keys from other inmates in prison before he was let out on bail,” said police.

When he returned around 2 pm, the bike was missing.
Based on his complaint, Royapettah police have registered a case. A week ago, two doctors had their bikes stolen from the hospital and police are yet to nab the accused.
