OPS: Kerala didn’t allow us to repair baby dam
Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam launched a strong counter attack to Kerala government and blamed them for the recent flood.
Chennai
“Kerala government knows well that water could not be stored more than 142 feet in Mullaiperiyar Dam and the excess water had to be sent to Idukki Dam. The Kerala government was given periodical warnings on the rising levels of Mullaiperiyar and despite knowing all these the Kerala government is blaming us,” said Panneerselvam at Chennai airport on Friday.
“When the inflow crossed 10,000 cusecs the remaining water had to be sent to Idukki Dam. This is done as per the Supreme Court’s order,” added Panneerselvam.
He further said that the SC had directed the TN government to store water up to 142 feet in Mullaiperiyar dam and after repairing the baby dam and the spillway the water level can be increased to 152 feet. However, the Kerala officials did not allow the construction.
OPS also blamed Kerala for the flood by saying that if baby dam and the spillway were repaired on time water could have been stored up to 152 feet.
