Frustrated over leave, army veteran kills colleague
Investigating the murder of an army man-turned-security guard at Aavin Zonal Office in Nandanam, Teynampet police arrested his colleague, also a veteran of the Indian army. The reason: the victim was apparently absent without leave for four days, forcing the other man to work without a break all that while.
Chennai
A day after a security guard was found murdered in Nandanam, Teynampet police have arrested his colleague in connection with the case. Investigation revealed that the accused, Anandhan, was angry at Kumarasamy, the victim, as the latter did not report to duty for the last four days. This forced Anandhan to work continuously without a break on those four days. Both retired from Indian Army, said police.
On Wednesday, when A Kumarasamy (54) of Vellore district reached Aavin Zonal Office in Nandanam where he was posted on security duty, an argument erupted between him and Anandhan (56), also from Vellore. In a fit of rage, Anandhan hit Kumarasamy with an iron rod. The latter fell unconscious while Anandhan panicked and fled the spot.
It was the passers-by who found Kumarasamy in a pool of blood. They rushed him to Government Royapettah Hospital, from where he was later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for better treatment. However, he died without responding to treatment, police said. After registering a case, the Teynampet police traced and arrested Anandhan. They had already recovered the rod he used for the murder from the spot.
According to police, the security services firm where Kumarasamy and Anandhan worked had posted the two as guards for Aavin Zonal Office at Nandanam. However, Kumarasamy was irregular at work, putting the burden on Anandhan, who often had to do double shifts and even made to work without a break. “On Wednesday, he murdered Kumarasamy out of sudden provocation,” police said.
Even Kumarasamy’s kin pointed out that the security firm was equally responsible for the murder, as they failed to send a replacement.
