Sexual harassment: Digital evidence may prove vital
Even as police officers in the state are split between the senior officer accused of workplace sexual harassment and the woman officer who levelled the allegation, sources noted on Monday that the Vishakha committee that was newly constituted in the Police Department would summon both officers soon.

Sources said that the committee headed by ADGP Seema Agarwal is likely to call the woman Superintendent of Police first to give her statement and evidence. The SP alleged that her boss, an officer in the rank of inspector general of police, had sexually harassed her.
Sources close to the IG noted that he had been professionally putting pressure on the woman SP, like on others, which she found too much to handle.
The unit in which both the officers worked has been very active in the last few months and pursuing a number of politically sensitive cases. “It is possible that the SP found it too much to handle. She had actually walked out of the IG’s room a couple of times with tears in her eyes after he scolded her for slow progress in the work assigned,” sources said.
However, sources in the particular wing of the police where the two worked, said that woman officer has enough digital evidence against the officer which she would hand over to the committee to substantiate her charge.
“She has levelled a serious allegation. If the IG had harassed her by sending obscene or suggestive messages, she can always place it before the committee. She must have been ready with the evidence when she lodged the complaint,” a source said.
