    Wet spell may continue in city today

    In further relief to the city, moderate rain is likely to continue for another day in Chennai and its suburbs under the influence of low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal, which was concentrated as a deep depression on Wednesday.

    “The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a depression and lay centred over coastal Odisha. It is likely to move north-westwards during next 24 hours. Under its influence, rain is expected to continue till Thursday evening in Chennai and its suburbs,” a senior Met official said on Wednesday.

    According to him, till Wednesday evening Chennai recorded about 100 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours, which is followed by Kancheepuram district which registered 90 mm during the same period.

    As the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over central and north Bay of Bengal and over Andaman sea due to the depression, fishermen especially from north coastal districts were advised not to venture into the sea in these region.

    Moreover, strong winds from south westerly direction, with speed reaching 35 to 45 kmph and gusting to 55 to 60 kmph occasionally was likely along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts.

    The latest weather bulletin further said that the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in Chennai and its suburbs during the next 24 hours. 

    Few spells of light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 32 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.
