    Around 20,000 eligible students skip engineering counselling

    With four rounds of counselling for the students seeking engineering admissions in Tamil Nadu coming to an end, about 20,000 eligible students, who had made their way in the merit list, skipped the entire counselling procedure.

    Till now, a total of 78,169 students were shortlisted to participate in four rounds of counselling, which started on July 25. However, only 58,744 candidates participated by the end of fourth round and the remaining 19,425 students, approximately 25% of the shortlisted candidates, skipped the counselling procedure. 

    According to the Tamil Nadu Engineering 2018 (TNEA) statistics, during the first round itself 7,303 students participated in the online counselling as against to 10,734 eligible candidates. 

    Likewise, in the second round alone 13,288 candidates took part in the online counselling as against to 18,513 eligible candidates. Similarly, during the third round only 18,534 students entered the online counselling as against 25,710 eligible candidates.  

    Finally, during the fourth round 18,406 candidates participated as against 23,212 students, which is about 21% of those shortlisted. A senior staff from Anna University, handling TNEA counselling, said that during the last round of counselling about 30,000 students is expected to participate.
