Police said that local residents saw the young man in the locality for the last three days. The man was later identified as Manish, but other details are not known yet. On Monday afternoon, he tried to enter an apartment in Santhoshapuram. When the security guard there chased him, he ran away and jumped into a 40-ft deep farm well nearby.Â
The people who saw this immediately alerted Selaiyur police. As he kept swimming and refused to come out despite relpeated pleas from the police officers, Fire Service personnel from Tambaram were brought to the spot. They rescued him with the help of a rope and handed him over to police.Â
Since the area falls under Pallikaranai police limit, Manish was handed over to their custody. Police said that Manish spoke only in Hindi and English, and could not communicate his personal details coherently. Further inquiry is on to trace his background and return him to his family.Â
