Four rail roko protesters jailed
In a controversial move, the Railway Police arrested four persons, part of a group of protesters, who had staged rail blockade at Oorapakkam seeking timely service of EMUs.
Chennai
They have been remanded in judicial custody, while hunt is on for others, based on the video footage of the protest that spread through social media.
The four were identified as Duraiswamy (47), Venkatesan (47), Mohan (33) and Baskar.
The action came after Tambaram railway police registered a case against them. They were produced before a court in Tambaram and later lodged in Puzhal prison.Â
Police added that they are on the lookout for many others based on a video footage available on social media and WhatsApp groups. The arrest led to criticisms that the Railway was trying to crackdown on regular commuters who were forced to resort to protest due to the national carrier’s inability to run the trains on time.
