Police arrest 5 for smuggling sand from Redhills lake
The Redhills police on Friday arrested five people on the charges of smuggling sand from Pallikuppam lake in Redhills and seized an earthmover and two trucks from them.

When a police team rushed to the spot on a tip-off, the men, who were loading the sand, escaped from the spot, leaving the vehicles behind.
However, police gave them a chase and arrested five of them. The arrested were identified as K Doss (29), V Alayasamy (28), S Raja (48), S Kottai (28) and P Subash (32) of Redhills.
The gang is said to have been sourcing sand from the lake without due permission for a while. They were remanded in judicial custody.
Woman loses gold chain at temple fest
A woman lost her fivesovereign gold chain while attending a temple festival at MGR Nagar on Friday. Yamuna Palanivel (65), after participating in the festival, realised her gold chain was missing. Subsequently, she lodged a complaint with MGR Nagar police, who suspect the involvement of chain snatchers.
Police said that the complainant alleged she lost the chain in the crowd, but she does not know how and when. “We are going through the CCTV footage for a possible lead,” police added.
