    Rain brings mercury down by 3 degrees Celsius, wet spell to continue in city and suburbs

    As the southwest monsoon further intensified, Chennai and its suburbs witnessed light rainfall from Saturday morning and the temperature has come down by three degrees Celsius.

    Met office predicted that the city and its surrounding areas will continue to be cloudy on Sunday, too, and heavy rain is expected in some parts of the region during the next 48 hours.

    Chennai city, which had received 8.5 mm of rain during the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 am this morning, received another 4 mm of rain from 8.30 am till 4.30 pm, Met office sources said. The suburban Meenambakkam Airport recorded 5.6 mm of rain.

    “The sky will be generally cloudy and intermittent rain or thundershowers are likely to occur during the next 24 hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 27 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively,” a met official said.

    Fishermen were warned that strong winds from south westerly to westerly direction, speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph, are likely along and off TN and Puducherry coasts.
