Four engineering students held for mobile snatching
The City Police on Thursday arrested four people, including two first year engineering students, for robbing mobile phones in Ambattur. In another case, a second year engineering student, who tried to snatch the mobile phone from a middle-aged man, was caught by the victim and passers-by and handed over to the local police.

According to police, Praveenkumar (19) was walking on the Second Main Road in Ambattur Estate on Thursday when four men on two bikes followed him. Suddenly, they intercepted Praveenkumar, threatened and robbed his mobile phone and escaped from the spot.
Following this, the teenager filed a complaint at Ambattur Estate police station. After an investigation, police arrested Mahesh (19) of Chintadripet and three juveniles.
Among the three juveniles, one of them is studying laptop service and repair course, while the other two are first-year engineering students. The two bikes and a mobile phone were seized from them. Mahesh was remanded in judicial custody and the three juveniles were sent to an
observation home.
In another case, also on Thursday, an engineering student was arrested for snatching a mobile phone, while another person who was with him escaped on a two-wheeler. According to police, P Sundaram (55), a BSNL employee, who was standing at the Subbarayan Nagar bus stop on Thursday morning.
As he was waiting for bus, M Irfan (21), a second-year student of a private engineering college, approached him along with another person on a bike. The youngsters struck up a conversation with Sundaram in the guise of seeking direction, and snatched his phone from his shirt and tried to flee the spot.
Hearing Sundaram’s cries for help, passers-by rushed to his rescue and managed to surround and secure Irfan, while the other person escaped on the two-wheeler, said sources. The mobile phone was retrieved from Irfan, who was handed over to Sankar Nagar police. Police said Irfan was remanded in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
