Gold worth Rs 21 lakh seized at airport
Customs officials at the Chennai airport seized gold worth Rs 21 lakh from an air passenger at who landed at the international terminus on Sunday.

The man from Chennai was placed under arrest. The arrested person was identified Hithuresh (49) from Chennai. Hithuresh was returning from Bahrain on Gulf Airlines after going to the Gulf country on a tourist visa.Â
When the Air Customs officials here checked his hand baggage, they found him carrying a small cardboard box wrapped with silver foil.Â
On suspicion, the officials checked it thoroughly and found gold hidden between the layers of the box. The gold was weighing 700 grams, estimated to be worth Rs 21 lakh. The Customs officials seized the gold and arrested Hithuresh.
