This was for the first time in India, such an event was held to create an awareness among the public to protect their bone and joints.
During the day event, organized by the International Ortho and Trauma Care, with the theme ‘Stronger Bones, Stronger India’, Orthopaedic experts explained to the public the advancements made in the treatment of bone and joint related problems.
Dr T Kamaraj, Founder of Dr Kamaraj Multi-Speciality Hospital and Director of Aakash Fertility Centre and Hospital and Ortho Expert Dr P Radhakrishnan of International Ortho and Trauma Care, said Free BMD Scan (Bone Mineral Density) was done for the public during the event.
They said the BMD uses X-rays to measure the amount of minerals, like calcium, to check whether the bones were weaker. This test was important for people who were at risk for osteoporosis, especially women and older adults.
Dr Kamaraj said the highlight of the two-day event was the expo in which various modalities of treatment available for treating osteoporosis, were showcased to create an awareness among the public.
He said more than 5,000 visitors from various districts of the state attended the two-day expo during which a booklet on how to protect the bones and joints was distributed free of cost to the public.
The expo witnessed good footfall on its first day as people thronged in large numbers and got expert advice and counselling for various bone and joint related problems.
