Three women robbed in separate incidents
In robbery and snatching incidents that are continuing unabated in the city, an autorickshaw driver attacked a lone woman passenger and escaped with her mobile phone and cash on PH Road while two elderly women were relieved of their gold chain in Adyar and KK Nagar.

Tamilarasi (30) of Kannapalayam near Avadi, who works as a helper at a private eye hospital, was returning home in an autorickshaw around 10 pm on Friday night. The auto driver suddenly stopped the vehicle in a deserted place on Poonamallee High Road, attacked Tamilarasi and escaped with her mobile phone and Rs 400 in cash.
Tamilarasi, with bleeding injuries, got treated at a private hospital and lodged a complaint at Avadi police station. A hunt has been launched for the auto driver.
Meanwhile, a 68-year-old woman was relieved of her five-sovereign chain when she was walking to a nearby a shop in Gandhi Nagar in Adyar on Friday. Based on Suseela’s complaint, Adyar police have registered a case.
In yet another case, a senior citizen was relieved of her three-sovereign chain in Ashok Nagar on Friday. The victim, Vijayalakshmi (70) stepped out of her house on 86th Street for a walk, when two men on a bike snatched her chain. Police said that the rider was wearing a helmet while the pillion rider did not cover his face. Based on Vijayalakshmi’s complaint, KK Nagar police have registered a case and have collected CCTV footage from nearby areas.
The investigation officer told DT Next that the pillion rider’s face and the vehicle registration number were recorded in the footage and said that the duo will be nabbed soon.
Man robbed at knifepoint near Gummidipoondi
A 24-year-old man was robbed of Rs 20,000 by unidentified men at knife point near Gummidipoondi. Lokesh (24) of Kavarapettai withdrew Rs 20,000 from an ATM in Gummidpoondi and was on his way back home by bike. When he was passing by Sipcot, four masked men on two bikes intercepted him. They threatened Lokesh with knife and wooden logs and snatched the cash. Based on his complaint, Kavarapettai police have registered a case and further investigation is on.Â
