DMK cadre immolates self, dies
A 44-year-old DMK functionary, who was reportedly distressed over the health condition of party president M Karunanidhi, committed suicide by setting himself ablaze on Saturday.

Kumaran of Gangaiamman Koil Street in Korattur was into real estate business and was posted as party’s deputy secretary of the 84th Division. “He used to spend the entire day in front of Kauvery Hospital ever since Karunanidhi was hospitalised,” said police.
On Saturday, Kumaran doused himself in petrol with a DMK flag in one hand outside his house and raised slogans praising Karunanidhi before setting himself on fire,” police added. Neighbours rescued him and rushed him to Kilpauk Government College Hospital. However, he died without responding to treatment. Korattur police have registered a case.
