7,912 abandoned vehicles seized by civic body
The Greater Chennai Corporation has seized 7,912 abandoned vehicles so far and has published on its official website the details of 2,030 abandoned vehicles seized around the city, in its latest drive.

Earlier this year, the Corporation had announced a massive drive to seize abandoned vehicles and free up the city’s roads and footpaths for the public. In its recently drive, the Corporation has seized 2,030 unused vehicles and the list has been published on its official website. In July, the Corporation released a list of 5,589 abandoned vehicles, in its second round of clearing out the city’s streets.
A statement by the Corporation revealed that none of the vehicles in the above list have been embroiled in legal proceedings.
The vehicles seized from zones 1-5 (Thiruvotriyur, Manali, Madhavaram, Tondiarpet and Royapuram) is being held at Avadhana Pappaiah Street, while those from zones 6-10 (Thiru-vi-Ka Nagar, Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet and Kodambakkam) will be at Mayor Sathyamoorthy Salai near Gengu Reddy Subway, and the vehicles seized from zones 11-15 (Valasaravakkam, Alandur, Adyar, Perungudi and Sholinganallur) will be at the old Pallikarnai Garbage Yard on Velacherry-Tambaral Road.
Working in tandem with the Chennai Police, the Corporation has so far seized 7,912 vehicles and out of this, 5,882 vehicles have been given the ‘No-Objection’ certificate (NOC) by the Police. The Corporation, once it receives the NOC, will proceed with the e-auction of the vehicles, to be carried out by Metal Scrap Trading Corporation. Most of these abandoned vehicles have been eating up precious street or pavement space, inconveniencing residents.
