Police secured the accused, Janakiraman alias Mani, Prabaharan alias Appu, Francis and Imran Sheriff, after a night-long operation that ended around 4 am.

The incident happened around 9.40 pm when Pramod (39), who runs an IT firm at Anna Nagar, was leaving office in a car. Four men, who were waiting at the parking lot of the building where his office is situated, managed to enter his car by force. They attacked him with a machete, restricted his movements and drove away the car.

When the vehicle reached Mannurpet near Ambattur, Pramod managed to kick open the car door and jump out. Shocked passers-by rescued him while the abductors managed to escape from the spot leaving the car behind despite locals giving them a chase.

Pramod immediately called his family over phone and informed about the incident. Later, he was rushed to a private hospital and received treatment for injuries.

Following a complaint, Anna Nagar police registered a case and launched a hunt for the abductors. A special team led by Anna Nagar inspector Saravanan and Maduravoyal inspector George Miller traced the gang members who were hiding in different parts of the city and arrested them overnight.

During the investigation, the accused reportedly told police that Prabaharan alias Appu, Francis and Imran Sheriff had obtained a loan from Janakiraman. As they couldn’t repay it, they planned the abduction as advised by Janakiraman.

Police are investigating how the gang targeted Pramod and whether more people were involved in the abduction. The police have not ruled out the possibility of involvement of staff of the victim in the case.
