Contract labourer dies in water tank collapse at ICF

Police said the deceased, Birbal Kumar (18), and the injured, Niraj Kumar (20), of Bihar were part of about 250 contract labourers deployed by Tata Projects, Hyderabad, to build a production shed at the LHB area near ICF Furnishing Division. 

To facilitate the convenient stay of the labourers, the ICF administration had instructed the contracting firm to provide them with basic amenities. After the labourers complained that the water provided to them was inadequate for regular use, the authorities decided to increase the capacity of the tank.

When labourers were bathing near their tenements at ICF South Colony on Monday morning, the walls of the water tank collapsed suddenly and the debris fell on them. “Birbal died on the spot, while Niraj suffered injuries on his shoulder,” police said.

The victim’s body was sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for autopsy while the injured was admitted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital after administering first aid at the ICF hospital. A case has been registered at ICF police station.

Sources said that ICF administration summoned the HR manager of Tata Project, and instructed him to provide all necessary assistance to the family of the deceased and also provide all medical assistance to the injured Neeraj Kumar. The management of the contracting firm have also  assured that all necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
