Man, woman found dead near lake in Kanchi

The deceased man was identified as P Shankar of Nelli village near Padalam in Maduranthakam, who was a construction worker. He was married and had three children. The deceased woman was identified as K Uma, hailing from the same locality. She was also a construction worker and married with two children. Police sources said that Shankar and Uma developed a relationship while working together.

After both families became aware of it, they warned the couple not to see each other. However, they continued the relationship. Upset over this, Uma’s husband Kumar sent her to a relative’s house in Chennai a few days ago. 

When Shankar came to know about it, he came to Chennai and took Uma to Maduranthakam on Thursday. Then, they decided to end their lives and consumed poison near a lake in Nelli village. When Uma’s husband was searching for her, villagers noticed their bodies and informed Kumar on Friday morning. On information, Padalam police went to the spot and the bodies for autopsy to Chengalpattu Government Hospital.
