DMK cadre stay put outside Kauvery Hospital

Ever since DMK president M Karunanidhi was rushed to the Kauvery Hospital in the wee hours of Saturday, the usually quiet area surrounding the hospital on TTK Road resembles a crowded picnic spot now.

From curious persons – eager to be the first to know what happens to the phenomenal leader to party cadre, who have travelled from far and wide just to be there for their chief – many have gathered on the road outside the hospital premises.

Making use of the opportunity to make a few extra bucks, hawkers have set up stalls, selling tea and snacks – including jam-bun, chips, tea, peanuts and so on. Some hawkers have even started selling drinks such as jigarthanda to help those present there beat the heat.

Party cadre from Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam have also planted themselves outside the hospital premises cheering for their chief occasionally. Making use of every possible facility available, including the unused flex boards there, they have made themselves comfortable on the footpaths, showing no signs of wanting to leave until their chief gets better and is discharged.

With slogans such as ‘Hail Kalaingar,’ cadre present there assured the public that their chief is recovering, which attracted the cheers of many present there.

Media personnel, on the other hand, have perched themselves on top of ladders, walls and barricades, all ready to shove their cameras and mikes at every politician who walks/drives in and out of the hospital building. The hospital had several visitors including Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Saturday.

During all the cheers of the great leader’s successful fight, rumours of his deteriorating condition too were being whispered around, continuing to put many in doubt about what the

    reality is.
