City’s tech institute organises 27th convocation
Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology conducted its 27th convocation on July 22, 2018 at the institution’s auditorium

Nearly 3,000 students received their degrees in the convocation presided by Chancellor Dr Remibai Jeppiaar. The founder chancellor Col Dr Jeppiaar was also present. The Col Dr Jeppiaar Award for excellence in research this year went to Dr K S Uma Suganya, of Bioengineering for her research accomplishments. This year 2470 undergraduates, 346 postgraduates graduated and 85 Phd scholars received their degrees. Among them 29 students are awarded with gold medals for their exemplary performance.
Dr M P Poonia, Vice Chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), was the Chief Guest for the occasion. He awarded the degrees to the students and congratulated the gold medallists. In his address, he emphasized upon various factors of a student’s upbringing that is significant for his societal development. He praised the founder chancellor’s vision for the institute and appreciated the tremendous efforts of the president and pro-chancellor in taking the institution forward.
S Somanath, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre VSSC (ISRO), Trivandrum and Dr Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, were awarded the honorary doctorate for their valuable contribution for the progress of the society and the nation. The institution was recently ranked 37th on the NIRF list released by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India among all Higher Education Institutes and Universities.
