‘Futuristic’ TN Disaster Management Perspective Plan, 2018-2030, approved

In the meeting held at Secretariat, Commissioner of Revenue Administration K Sathyagopal explained to Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and other senior state Ministers about the contents of the plan. 

Sathyagopal, in his explanation, said that the plan is highly futuristic and is based on many successful models across the world. Sendai framework for disaster risk reduction, United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals of 2030, Paris Agreement on Climate Change and its goals, National Disaster Management Plan of 2016, Prime Minister’s 10-point agenda on disaster risk reduction and so on were also taken into consideration before framing the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Perspective Plan.

 Describing the contents of the plan, Sathyagopal said that the perspective plan will contain complete geographical details of Tamil Nadu, impact of disasters, estimation of losses in various types of disasters, preventive measures by not disturbing the environment, administrative setup, readiness to handle disasters, compensation to be awarded, renovation post-disaster, to plan developmental activities by taking into account of the disaster management plans, the funds needed for handling such calamities and so on. He further said that the Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Perspective Plan, 2018-30, was framed under section 23(3) of Disaster Management Act of 2005.
