Suburayan, a district representative of the AIADMK and a farmer, had two sons Senthil Kumar and Raj Kumar.
Two years ago, Senthil killed his brother over a property dispute and he was in prison. He came out on bail six months ago, police said.
After coming out, he was reportedly harassing his father to give him three grounds of land in Padappai.
But Suburayan refused to part with the land, and instead approached the Manimangalam police complaining about the threats from Senthil. Following this, police summoned Senthil and warned that his bail would be cancelled if he threatened his father.
On Saturday morning, as Suburayan was supervising some construction work, two masked men arrived on a two-wheeler and attacked him with sickles before escaping from the spot. Suburayan was rushed to the Chrompet Government Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Manimangalam police have registered a case and are investigating.
