The delegation was led by AM Vikramaraja, president of Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangalin Peramaippu. Addressing reporters, he said that in the second phase of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) Project, it had notified that the CMRL would acquire land in Otteri, Pattalam, Doveton, Kellys and Purasawalkam all of them are commercial areas. Also when CMRL gives compensation, it will be given only to the building owner and the trader who is running the shop by paying in lakhs will be made to suffer.
So, the government should ensure that proper compensation is given to the affected traders so that their livelihood is not affected. Members from Purasawalkam Vepery Merchants Association, who also met Chief Minister, said that till the completion of the project, the traders should be given monthly compensation as they are the ones to be affected by the land acquisition process.
