While there are three important mosquitoes, each of them breeds differently, the doctors said.
“The Anopheles mosquito breeds in well water, overhead tanks and other natural water resources. This mosquito transmits the malaria parasite. When the symptoms are identified, the patient is usually prescribed to undergo a blood smear examination,” said Dean, Dr R Jayanthi.
About the Aedes mosquito, which is a scare in the state, she said, “It transmits the dengue virus and the disease includes symptoms such as high fever, rashes, bone and joint pain, bleeding etc.”
She, therefore, urged the public to avoid storing water in open containers, buckets, mugs and tyres. The Culex mosquito, on the other hand, she said, breeds in sewage water and water in paddy fields. “They transmit Japanese Encephalitis and Filariasis,” she stated.
