    18 men arrested for raping minor in Ayanavaram beaten in court complex by a group of lawyers

    A disastrous scene prevailed in the Additional City Civil Court campus when a group of lawyers attacked the 18 accused in child rape case as they were being brought out of the court hall.

    Chennai City police on Tuesday produced 18 men booked under POSCO Act in connection with the sexual abuse of a hearing impaired minor girl in Ayanvaram before magistrate and remanded them in judicial custody. 

    They were identified as security guards Murugesan (54) of Ayanavaram,  Palani (40) Pulianthope, Abishek (23) of Ayanavaram, Sukumaran (60) of Kasimedu, Prakash (58) of Perambur and Umapathy (42) of MKB Nagar, lift operators Parasamasivam of Ayanavaram (60), Ravikumar of Ayanavaram (66), Babu (36) of Otteri, Deenadayalan (50) of Ayanavaram, Seenivasan (45) of Ayanavaram, Plumbers Jaiganesh (23) of Ayanavaram, Raja (32) of Ayanavaram, Suria (23) of Pulianthope and Suresh (32) of Kolathur, electician Jayaraman (26), housekeeper Rajasekar (40) and gardener Gunasekar (55). 

    They sexually abused the 11-year-old Class 7 girl in isolated areas of the gated community for over the last six months by threatening her not to tell about the abuse to anyone. The girl recently fell sick and when her elder sister inquired her, she opened up about the torture. The girl's parents were unaware of it all along thinking that the girl had gone to play within the campus. 

    Based on their complaint, Vepery all women police picked up all 18 suspects on Sunday and the girl by was sent to Kilpauk Medical College hospital for a check-up. The accused reportedly admitted to their crime during investigation.

    Despite heavy posse of police personnel who were present in the court premises, a group of lawyers came forward and beat the accused in the corridor. 

    Police managed to retrieve a few accused from hands of agitated lawyers and pushed inside Family Court and CBI Court.
