Technology makes education decisions easier for parents
A couple of years ago, two entrepreneurs in Chennai, Rajesh Sanghvi and Umesh Jain faced a lot of difficulties when they were trying to find a school for their children, with very less information available online. Undeterred, they came up with a plan to make every parent’s life easier across India – a free service that would help the community searching for schools.
Chennai
It will provide the latest update on admission details, peer reviews, connect parents with each other and find resources for education and skill development of kids.
This is how SchoolConnects was born. It is now an education-tech website and phone app that caters to parents in 35 cities across the country. “We have around 2.5 lakh parents visiting our website every month. Most of them have queries because different schools have different deadlines for admissions.
Moreover, we have done our research based on parents’ feedback and other curation to recommend schools,” said co-founder Rajesh.
The app has a feature where parents can interact with each other and find other activities and classes for their wards. It has created a huge impact. “If your child is in eighth grade, for instance, according to area and interest, activities can be found for him or her. Similarly, like-minded parents are connected to coordinate with each other,” he added Now, the duo is organising an event – Young Learner’s Fest - a holistic learning awareness initiative through the combination of experiences, workshops and sessions at the New Woodlands Hotel, RK Salai on July 15.
“This is to introduce new learning processes to parents. We have demonstrations and hands-on involvement in the likes of aeromodelling, science and robotics, organic farming, etc. There is also a mobile planetarium and money camp. Moreover, we have expert sessions on career counselling, financial management for parents, and so on. We want the children to make an educated choice about their future,” concludes Rajesh.
