Minister Vijayabaskar and others pledge to donate eyes
To commemorate the bicentenary celebrations of the Government Eye Hospital, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and others on Wednesday, took a pledge to donate their eyes. The minister also opened the plaque and released the symbol of the bicentenary year.

Vijayabaskar said that every year, 250-300 corneal transplants are done at the institute.“Several from Kerala, Karnataka and other states are treated here,” he said, adding that 27,945 persons have benefitted through the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme at the cost of Rs 2.78 crore in the hospital.
He said that the eye department in the eye care centres at Kilpauk, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Dharmapuri and Kanniyakumari government hospitals will be modernised at Rs 5 crore and modern equipment will also be provided to the Kilpauk Hospital and Thanjavur Medical College Hospital. Besides, a separate eye department will be created at Rs 1.64 crore in the Virudhunagar and Rajapalayam government hospitals.
