Sreejith had reportedly created two fake websites to make prospective candidates fall prey to the fraud.

CMRL received complaints that candidates being asked to pay Rs 4,000 or more were being duped after advertisement for recruitment for Metro Rail started getting published on the fake website www.cmrlco.org.

Investigations revealed that the website was created by Sreejith, who had copied the home page of the original website and took note of the design and the content. He created his own fake alternative where he invited job aspirants. He readied his own posts on the CMRL claiming that they were vacant and posted his contact number and email id. He took a few candidates’ resume and also issued appointment orders.

Sreejith told the police that he did not have a permanent job and worked only when he had projects.

It may be recalled that Chennai Metro Rail authorities had lodged a police complaint seeking action against those who had created fake websites in their name and cheating job aspirants.

The official website had cautioned the prospective candidates not to fall prey to fake and misleading advertisements in CMRL put up in social media platforms and local TV channels by fraudulent means.
