Cash, jewels stolen from Congress leader Chidambaram's house

According to the police, the complaint was lodged by Murali, the manager of Chidambaram’s wife Nalini, on Saturday night. Police said it was Nalini who found the cupboard open and valuables, including silk sarees, diamonds and gem studded ancestral ornaments, missing when she returned home on Saturday evening. Police hinted that they are interrogated two suspects, both working in the house of Chidambarams.

Police believe that the theft could have taken place a few days ago. “A written complaint was filed about the missing valuables on Saturday night,” a police officer said. However, when the family came to know about the possible involvement of the maids, they approached the police to withdraw the complaint. “It looks like families of domestic helps have promised to return the valuables,” police said.

According to police, it appears to be an inside job as nobody else could have entered the house of the former minister which is guarded by the police personnel always.

Police hinted that two women, who were working in the house for more than a decade, were questioned. “They usually stay in the house even when Chidambarams are not there. They could have used the opportunity to steal valuables on different occasions,” police noted.
