Police slammed for conniving with advocates to settle property dispute
Coming down heavily on Virugambakkam police for colluding with advocates in encroaching upon property under civil dispute, the Madras High Court on Thursday directed protection to both the petitioner and the advocate who withdrew from the case following threats from the so-called advocates.

The division bench comprising Justice N Kirubakaran and Justice R Pongiappan before whom the petitioner C Vishal Kumar appearing party-in-person narrated the sequence wherein the advocates forcefully evacuated him and the police in turn booking a case of trespass against him, said, “Since allegations are being made against some of the police officials and so-called advocates, the Commissioner of Police, Chennai, is directed to provide round-the-clock police protection to both the petitioner as well as his erstwhile counsel.” “It is made clear that the police personnel from Virugambakkam station should not be employed for protection duty,” judge added.
The judge while making oral observations equating such police personnel to mercenaries who would do anything for money and how a handful of advocates were bringing disgrace to the profession, said, “The petitioner/party in persons would specifically state that he apprehends danger at the hands of some of the advocates and police officials and if anything, untoward happens to him and to his family members, those persons are responsible.”
As per the petitioner, the property in question is under family dispute and exploiting this batch of advocates with the connivance of police encroached it and put up their own board. The police and the advocates threatened him to withdraw the civil suit or else a couple of more criminal cases would be slapped on him.
