    Medical students spend 100 hours in community service

    The second and third year MBBS students of SRM Medical College enrolled themselves for the “Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme -100 hours of swachhata ” launched by the Government of India.

    The students adopted the village of Anjur under Kattankulathur block of Kanchipuram district and conducted various activities for the improvement of rural sanitation. The programme went on for a duration of 100 hours. 

    The initiative included various activities like field visits and surveys on solid waste management, waste collection drive, street cleanup, sapling plantation, door to door awareness campaign on open air defecation, talk on menstrual hygiene and steps of hand washing, development of compost pit, conducting activities in government.

    High school, wall paintings on the theme of cleanliness and sanitation which were performed by the students with great zeal. The valedictory ceremony and prize distribution function for the same took place on the June 29 at Government High School, Anjur and was chaired by Dr A Sundaram, Dean, SRM MCH and RC and V Thirumurugan, Associate Director (CL), SRM IST. 

    Dr Sundaram urged the children to learn the importance of cleanliness and hygiene and to further teach their parents and friends while the chief guest, MSM Vallavan, DSP (Vandalur) gave a motivational speech on how to build self-confidence. 

    The event concluded with the winners of the drawing, speech and slogan competition conducted for school students receiving prizes from the dignitaries.
