The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted bail to a retired Accounts officer and an Assistant Accounts officer of Raj Bhavan who were arrested in connection with clearing fake bills that were submitted for the purchase of furniture to Raj Bhavan.

Justice AD Jagadish Chandira before whom the bail petitions from Kuppusamy and Sivakumar respectively came up for hearing granted conditional bail and directed both to appear before the Guindy Police Station daily at 10.30 AM until further orders.
The prosecution had contended that the Deputy Secretary of Governor’s House Hold on February 13, 2018 had lodged a complaint that Sait Furnishings at Adayar, from whom the house keeping department of Governor’s office at Raj Bhavan, usually purchases furnishing materials, had submitted bills even without supplying the materials.
But investigations revealed that the bills furnished to Raj Bhavan failed to tally with the corresponding copies retained with Sait Furnishing. Hence using fake bills, the amount was misappropriated. Based on this another complaint was registered on February 26. Following this, Kuppuswamy and Sivakumar were arrested on June 05 and arrayed as accused 4 and 5 in the case.
However, in the bail plea moved they submitted that they have nothing to do with the orders placed by the Housekeeping department of Governor’s office and that their role is limited to passing the bills submitted by the Housekeeping department to Deputy Secretary and following his approval payment will be released by them. Hence, the allegation of the prosecution that the bills were fabricated by them is false, they contended.
